prefab stair
This stair in the foyer of the library forms a public route between the train station and the shopping centre, this route is known in the town as 'the axis'.
The main concept is based on the idea that first one marks a territory, in this case a huge white base elevated above the ground, then one defines this territory, in this case defined by the yellow clay blocks. This meant that the concrete stair had to be laid in place before the brick walls, which then had to be cut around the stair. Have a look around campus and see if you can find out if this order, ie. stair before wall is common practice.
Also important is that the stair comes out to greet you, widening at the base, the skylight was placed so that at certain times the light would illuminate the stair.
